Travel to Bloomington

Plan Your Route

Indiana is known as the crossroads of America, so you can be sure there are many routes into the area. Bloomington is an easy trip from anywhere in the midwest and a short distance from the Indianapolis International Airport.

Once you get here, getting around is no problem! It’s convenient to drive, walk, or use a ride share service, and public parking is available downtown and on campus.

Use these transportation tips to help you plan your route.

Getting Here

There are several options for getting to Bloomington, and these resources can make trip planning much easier.

The Indianapolis International Airport is the closest major airport, just 50 miles north of Bloomington, with flights from many major U.S. cities and several international locations. Car rental services are available at the airport and bus shuttle service is available by Go Express Travel.

Licensed pilots with private planes can fly into the Monroe County Airport, just a few miles west of Bloomington. You will need to arrange for local transportation from the airport.

The drive into Bloomington is convenient from any direction, so enjoy the ride!

From the north or south, I-69 provides interstate access. Construction is taking place north of Martinsville, Indiana, so there may be delays in that area. You can use IN-67 to avoid construction traffic or for a quick route from the Indianapolis International Airport.

From the east or west, IN-46 provides a scenic route into Bloomington. This two-lane highway connects to I-65 to the east.

There are two Greyhound bus stations in Indianapolis, one downtown and one at the Indianapolis International Airport. You will need to rent a car or use a shuttle or ride share service to get to Bloomington.

Ride the rails to downtown Indianapolis via Amtrak. Once you're there, you can take a taxi to Bloomington or to the Indianapolis International Airport where you can rent a car or take a shuttle bus.
