Traffic tips for attending IU Bloomington Commencement

  • Traffic congestion is heavy at all IU Bloomington Commencements, and especially at Undergraduate Commencement in May.
  • In May, graduating graduate students (Friday afternoon ceremony) should enter the athletics complex via gate 12 or 14 and should arrive at Wilkinson Hall, 1151 E. 17th Street, by 1 p.m. Families and friends of graduating graduate students should enter Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, 1001 E. 17th Street, when doors open at 1 p.m.
  • In May, graduating undergraduate students (Saturday morning ceremony) should arrive at Mellencamp Pavilion, 1800 N. Dunn Street, by 7:30 a.m. Families and friends of graduating undergraduate students should enter Memorial Stadium, 701 E. 17th Street, when stadium entrances open at 8 a.m.
  • On Saturday morning of Undergraduate Commencement in May, one-way traffic patterns go into effect at least two hours before the ceremony; 17th Street will be one-way (two lanes), heading east from N. College Avenue to Fee Lane. Northbound traffic on Dunn Street will not be allowed to turn left/west onto the State Road 45/46 Bypass.
