Spring Graduate Ceremony ADA Accommodations

Parking for Guests with Wheelchairs at the Spring Graduate Ceremony

  • If any member of your party uses a wheelchair, and the vehicle that is being used has a government-issued accessibility tag, please enter the athletics complex via gate 13 off Fee Lane. Attendants will provide directions to the designated ADA lot.
  • Drivers may drop off guests who use wheelchairs at the north lobby entrance of Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, where it is comfortable to wait until drivers have parked their vehicles and returned to the lobby.
  • No prior parking arrangements are required for guests whose vehicles have ADA tags. If a vehicle will be transporting a guest with a wheelchair, and the vehicle does not have a government-issued accessibility tag, please contact Commencement ADA Support at 812-855-4723 or gradada@indiana.edu.
  • Wheelchair users must bring their own wheelchairs, with personal identification attached and prominently displayed. Indiana University does not supply wheelchairs.

Seating for Guests with Wheelchairs at the Spring Graduate Ceremony

  • Guests with wheelchairs and other members of their parties should ask a uniformed attendant for seating assistance once their parties are complete. Saving seats is not permitted in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
  • Attendants will make every effort to provide the parties of guests who use wheelchairs with appropriate seating. For the safety of all guests, some members of large parties may be asked to watch the ceremony from an area that is separate from the wheelchair section.

Parking for Guests with Mobility Limitations Other than Wheelchairs at the Spring Graduate Ceremony

  • If any member of your party has difficulty walking or using stairs or ramps but does not use a wheelchair, and your car has a government-issued ADA tag, please enter the athletics complex via gate 4 off 17th Street.
  • Drivers may drop off guests with limited mobility at the north lobby of Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, where chairs are available and it is comfortable to wait until drivers have parked their vehicles and returned to the lobby.
  • If your vehicle does not have a government-issued ADA tag, please enter the athletics complex via any gate. Golf cart drivers will be available to transport these guests directly to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
  • No prior parking arrangements are required for guests who have limited mobility but do not use wheelchairs.

Seating for Guests with Mobility Limitations at the Spring Graduate Ceremony

  • Guests with limited mobility and other members of their parties should ask a uniformed attendant for seating assistance once their parties are complete. Saving seats is not permitted in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
  • Attendants will make every effort to accommodate the parties of guests with limited mobility in an appropriate section. Guests will not need to use stairs or ramps to reach this area. For the safety of all guests, some members of large parties may be asked to watch the ceremony from an area that is separate from the limited mobility section.

Accommodations for Guests Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

  • Closed captioning and sign language interpreting are available at the Spring Graduate Commencement ceremony.
  • Guests in need of these services are encouraged to ask attendants for seating where these services are easily viewed.
